Post Graduate Training

The Neurosurgery Department of Allama Iqbal Medical College has rapidly blossomed into a leading center for not only neurosurgical patient care but also for postgraduate training and research, by the dedicated efforts of current mentor Professor Naveed Ashraf.

This department is offering two types of Post Graduate Neurosurgical training Programmes to doctors who want to choose Neurosurgery as career.

• Master of Surgery (MS):A degree programme is running under the aegis of University of Health Sciences, Punjab leading to the MS (Neurosurgery) degree.
• Fellow of College of Physicians and Surgeons (FCPS):The other is a fellowship programme overseen by the College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan leading to a higher diploma FCPS (Neurosurgery).

The educational goal of the faculty is to train leaders in the field of neurosurgery. To this end, the faculty’s expertise and specialization covers the entire breadth and depth of neurosurgery.

Teaching programme includes journal club, presentations, clinicopathological meetings, clinical skill development, clinical audit, presentations in grand rounds and a broad exposure to a large and diverse number of operative procedures in neurosurgery.

The department also has the only neurosurgical simulator in Asia on which residents get training on a wide array of neurosurgery operative modules.

We evaluate our residents progress through frequent evaluations and performance against yearly goals.

Research is integral to the departmental mission and Residents participate in the full process of research including research proposal, accumulation of data, presentation and publication.

Our department was instrumental in the recent revision of the MS (Neurosurgery-2019) training curriculum bringing it up to date with the needs of modern neurosurgical training.
